An upgrade to the WWTP at Kerry Group’s milk processing plant in Newmarket, Co. Cork was planned to cater for increased volumes of effluent from the expanding facility. As part of this contract a new 225mm Ø PE rising main was laid from the upgraded WWTP at the Newmarket Co-op site approx. 4km along the busy R576 Newmarket to Kanturk road to a new discharge point on the Dalua River.

A portion of this pipeline was laid by traditional open-cut technique however approx. 3km of the pipeline was installed by directional drilling technique, delivering substantial cost and programme savings to the client.
